Directions

Coming from Colorado Springs or Old Colorado City:

Go west on Colorado Blvd towards Manitou (name may have changed to Manitou Ave. depending on the map you look at). You’ll turn right (north) at the traffic light at Beckers Lane so you’ll be turning in between the motel and the Chinese restaurant. Continue north going past the skate park until you come to the stop sign at El Paso. Look towards your left and you’ll see a one story, dark red stucco building (the dance studio shares the building with The Hair Emporium)… this is 65 Beckers Lane.

Class description:

Level 1

• We will do a warm up/stretch.
• Break down the basic American Tribal Style (ATS) movements and learn how to put them together.
• We will learn how to dance in a stagger formation, chorus, duets and trios.
• Basic zill work will included as well.

What to wear:

• Comfortable exercise clothes
• Preferred: Long skirt, pantaloons, hip scarf, zills, and socks

Level 2

• We will be doing a more intense warm up to build strength and stamina required for performances.
• We will briefly review ATS moves to refine them. Then break into formations to experience dancing them.
• There will be a portion of class dedicated to drum solos every week.
• We will also work on some Tribal Fusion choreography and as always performance technique.

What to wear:

• Long skirt or pants you can move in (pantaloons, Melodia, or spinning skirt), shoes or socks you can spin in, zills, hip scarf. Jewelry and costume is always encouraged to practice dancing in class before a performance.
